The London launch of the 2023 Marmalade Awards happened last week on Thursday 9th of March at The Tower of London when an orange glow might well have been perceived emanating from this historic building.
The Dalemain World Marmalade Awards co-hosted the event with Lycetts and Historic Houses next generation group and the 2023 Marmalade Awards were launched with great fanfare.
Speeches were made by Charles Renwick of Lycetts on the charitable giving that the company is well known for, Major General Paul Nanson about the history of The Tower of London and of course the evening would not have been complete without a mention of our furriest patron, Paddington Bear when Karen Jankel talked about her father’s iconic creation.
Paddington has been a patron of the festival and Awards for the last 18 years and will be present at Dalemain to offer tastes from his marmalade sandwich at the spiritual home of marmalade, in the Lake District on the 22nd April.
Mike Ranson the 2022 winner was offering tastes of his Best in Show winning jar of Seville Orange & Cider Marmalade with Cointreau to guests. The 2023 winner will be announced at this year’s Festival and will be produced and sold at Fortnum & Mason, available to buy immediately it is declared the best marmalade in the world for 2023.
“If the last few years has taught us anything it is that human connection is essential for growth. Collaboration and profound connection with our community has been vital for the Awards to grow and thrive. We could not continue without the marmalade people around us from the judges who tasted their 100th Jar to the volunteers who unwrapped entries which began coming in last December. The benefit and expertise of partnerships and support from our sponsors Rathbones, Fortnum & Mason and Lycetts has been invaluable. It is very thrilling to have brought our marmalade community to the Tower of London for an exceptionally special launch of this year’s awards.’

The event was hosted in the Fusilier Museum by kind permission of Major General Paul Nanson at The Tower of London. It was made possible by Diskette Ideas and their company Leafyard which is a web app based in science that motivates people to take control of their own mental health.
The Dalemain World Marmalade Awards and Festival will take place on the 22nd April 2023.
