According to the NTF, one of the key challenges facing trainers and British racing is the attraction and retention of skilled stable riders and grooms. This award has been created and structured to encourage and embed employee management practices that attract and retain talent. The award is also a way of publicising the best employment practices and demonstrating the positive results of doing so.
Lycetts involvement with the award is simple. With our deep understanding of the rural sector, bloodstock and racing, we feel that it is entirely fitting to sponsor a prize award that showcases employers’ commitment to implementing outstanding working environments for their staff. The Team Champion Award will also prove that the very best not only attracts but also retains the best. This brings benefits in terms of morale and staff retention. If everyone in a yard is involved in the process, it will also help to keep accidents and claims experience low enough to drive down the cost of Employers’ Liability insurance. This type of insurance is of immense value and provides great peace of mind to both employee and employer if a serious accident does occur.
The award will be judged on two key sets of criteria: the methods trainers use to retain their staff and the promotion of safe working practices. On 1st May, full details of how trainers enter the award and judging criteria will be finalised. All trainers will be invited to participate in the 2017 competition with the first winner of the NTF Lycetts Team Champion Award announced and presented at the NTF 2018 AGM. This will be timed to coincide with the Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards.
